Buss Project
Location: Minneapolis, MN
Full Yard Project

Aesthetically pleasing, but the ability to work well with the children, the landscape architect was recruited to design an exterior space. This space harmoniously blends the architecture of the landscape with the architecture of the home, while being mindful that the space needs to function like a park. The overall goal was to make the outside as comfortable as the interior spaces.

Buss Project Details

Aesthetically pleasing, but the ability to work well with the children, the landscape architect was recruited to design an exterior space. This space harmoniously blends the architecture of the landscape with the architecture of the home, while being mindful that the space needs to function like a park. The overall goal was to make the outside as comfortable as the interior spaces.

There are play spaces that interconnect the patio and the driveway for basketball, soccer and hockey. Nestled in the corner of the lot, is a play set and fort for the kids to climb around on, while the adults can enjoy an evening warming up next to the fireplace. The fireplace becomes a focal point and gathering spot in the backyard.

The fireplace is made of a concrete product, chosen for durability and aesthetics, while the natural bluestone patio that encompasses the fireplace was brought for its colors and textures. Combined with a rich in color clay paver as a solider course, this patio serves as a connection of the home to the backyard space.

Having the neighbors concrete garage as a background, made for a less than desirable view. But with some creativity and some paint, a mural was placed upon the wall, giving the occupants of the space, visual reference that they are at the lake. Overall the landscape, while being in the heart of the Minneapolis, gives you an escape from everyday life.
